My name is Mrs. Vanessa McGowan, I am the General Music Teacher and Chorus Director at
Arbor Intermediate School. I received my Bachelor of Music Degree from
William Paterson University, Wayne NJ. I majored in Flute Performance and Music Education.
I also continued my studies in music at The Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.
I have performed in numerous Orchestras and Chamber ensembles in the Tri-State area and am currently an active member in a Flute Quartet.

Students in the 4th and 5th grade has General Music instruction once each week for 45 minutes.
The emphasis in grades 4 and 5 is on music theory. Our goal is for students to be able to read, write, describe and perform music independently.

General Music instruction will enable students to: Employ critical thinking skills to evaluate music and musical performance; Relate music to their personal experiences, to the other arts, and to areas outside the arts; Apply basic notational reading and performance skills; and Interpret, evaluate, and appreciate music from around the world,
