The end of the school year can be a very exciting time!  We look forward to summer vacation and plenty of fun!  It is also a time to reflect on what has transpired over the past school year.  We reflect on what we have learned and accomplished.  During the summer, think about all the reading and writing strategies you have learned.  When you are reading a book, remember to think about the story, how the characters change, problems and how they are solved, why the setting is important, and the theme and theory of the story.  Make a picture in your mind while you read the story to help with comprehension.  Talk about the book to a parent, grandparent, friend, etc.  Remember to read every day!  Write about what you read and collect think marks.  Practice writing by making lists, poetry, or writing a letter to a friend.  Write, write, and write!

Summer is an excellent time to practice your math facts!  Time yourself with flashcards until you know them as fast as you can recite the alphabet!  This daily practice will make math easier in September!

*Important Advice: Read 30 minutes at home daily!  Record how much you read in your reader's log daily!  Use a variety of reading strategies inside of your reader's notebook to help better comprehend the stories you are reading.

*Reading is the key to a successful future!
